Like a child finally outgrowing its parents, the mainstream media producers have become awkward with hormones, ugly with zits, and nihilistically rebellious. The Arts it so carelessly stole as it fled from our control is now made by committee. They are made in rooms far above the earth in sky scratching buildings in L.A and New York, and so carefully pieced together with market research. They are hardly different then 30 second TV spots. Films, albums, novels, and the like are often more advertisements then an articulation of anything human. They burst with cliché’, inhuman sex, gun fire, and worst of all: fabrication. The Vanguard isn’t holy water or medicine, but we will try to be. Our goal is to filter out the toxic and fake nature of the modern media, point it out, and throw it away.

Free Media is content created without the overbearing influence of the media merchant. Whenever a director doesn't back down from corporate pressure to change his film, every time an album makes it threw the gauntlet of producers without being mawed we will cover it.
Our other cause is that of Media Proliferation. Control over the the media our culture makes it not the sole property of Sony, Time Warner, or any other combination of initials. Art is ours, and we should have the right to share it.
